Israeli President Isaac Herzog met with the country’s leaders during his official visit to Albania.
President Herzog met with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama in the Albanian capital Tirana. A joint press conference was held after the meeting.
In his speech, Herzog expressed his pleasure to be among friends “at this very painful time for Israel.”
Noting that the Albanian and Jewish people have a long and meaningful history, Herzog said, “Mr. Prime Minister, your country has shown again and again that it stands by the Israeli people as we fight to defend our people, our borders and our civilization, and especially as we fight for the “dream of bringing peace between us and the Palestinians” in the hope that all nations in the region will live in peace.”
Noting that he visited Albania to increase connections in all areas of life, especially in the economic field, Herzog emphasized that he was accompanied by a very high-level Israeli economic delegation on the trip.
Prime Minister Rama also said that the Israeli and Palestinian people are aware that what is happening in their lands is very serious and must end sooner or later, adding that “Albania also greatly supports the ceasefire, the return of the hostages to their homes and all possible efforts to start a new process for the good of all people.”
Rama also added that they were proud that their ancestors did not hand over Jews who took refuge in their country to the Nazis during World War II.
As part of his contacts in Albania, Herzog also met with his Albanian counterpart Bajram Begaj.
In a written statement from the Albanian Presidency, it was stated that bilateral cooperation opportunities, developments in the Western Balkans, Kosovo, the situation in the Middle East and cyber security issues were discussed during the meeting.
