The European Union expressed regret that political parties in Kosovo did not identify a unifying figure for the country’s presidential candidate, prompting the country to hold its third election in less than a year and a half.
An EU spokesman said the European bloc regretted that political parties failed to identify a unifying figure for the country’s president, leading to the third election in less than a year and a half.
“It is urgent for Kosovo to strengthen the inter-party dialogue to ensure the efficient functioning of the institutions and not to miss opportunities that bring benefits to the citizens, including those from the Growth Plan,” the EU spokesperson told Radio Free Europe.
After the failure of the deputies to elect the president within the constitutional deadline, the Assembly was dissolved on April 28. The acting president, Albulena Haxhiu, has officially decreed the date of June 7 for the holding of early parliamentary elections.
