The Giessener Anzeiger newspaper noted that similar candies were sent from the Czech Republic to Germany a few weeks ago.
In the meantime, several people bought the gelatin candies that the authorities confiscated from the vending machines. The district administration warned that sweets can be dangerous especially for children. “Muscimol can affect the mental state and bodily reactions and thus cause dizziness, disrupt movement and speech, induce hallucinations and convulsions,” said the town hall.
The Czech State Agricultural and Food Inspection (SZPI) is also fighting against products containing muscimol, a neurotoxin found in the red toadstool. In October, she found out that such a product was offered by one of the online stores.
