After visits to Sarajevo and Tirana, the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, will travel this Wednesday (June 3) to Pristina, where he will hold meetings with the acting President, Albulena Haxhiu, Prime Minister Albin Kurti and the leaders of the Kosovar opposition.
The day before, Costa visited Albania, where he was received by Prime Minister Edi Rama and President Bajram Begaj.
During these meetings, the President of the European Council evaluated Albania’s progress in the European integration process and the determination shown on the path to membership in the European Union.
Costa also highlighted the country’s positive progress in negotiations with the EU, including the holding of the 8th EU-Albania Intergovernmental Conference, which confirmed the fulfillment of the intermediate criteria for Chapter 1, “Basics”.
As part of his Balkan tour, after visiting Pristina, Costa will travel on Thursday (June 4) to Belgrade and then to Montenegro.
During his stay in Serbia, he is expected to hold meetings with the Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and the Speaker of the Parliament, Ana Brnabić.
The tour will continue on Thursday evening in Montenegro, where Costa will attend an official dinner hosted by President Jakov Milatović in Tivat, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the restoration of the country’s independence.
On June 5, the activities will focus on the EU-Western Balkans Summit in Tivat, which will take place under the theme: “Common prosperity and stability of the EU and the Western Balkans”.
According to the official protocol, after the end of the summit sessions, a joint statement will be held for the media.
“On June 5, at 15:30, President Costa will co-chair the closing press conference together with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the Montenegrin President, Jakov Milatović,” the official announcement states.
