Attack on Deputy Minister Mehani, Police detain 2 people. Special forces land in Skenderaj

The Basic Prosecutor’s Office in Mitrovica has announced that it has sent two people into custody for 48 hours in connection with yesterday’s event (May 14), where after a physical conflict, the Deputy Minister of Finance, Hysni Mehani, who is also the head of the Vetëvendosje Movement center in Skënderaj, and the activist Bahri Zabeli were injured.

It is also reported that Mehani and Zabeli were interrogated as the injured, 5 witnesses as well as the two detainees. The latter are suspected of having committed the criminal offense of “Slight Bodily Injury”.

“Also, five (5) witnesses and two (2) suspects with the initials EL and BN were interviewed in the capacity of the victims HM and BZ, who, by the decision of the prosecutor, were sent to detention for forty-eight (48) hours, on the suspicion of committing the criminal offense of “slight bodily injury”, the Prosecution’s announcement states.

The guardian prosecutor of the Basic Prosecution in Mitrovica together with the police worked yesterday to collect relevant evidence related to the event.

The prosecution announced, among other things, that two other suspects, SL and KH, have been called for questioning, but have not responded to the request.

Hysni Mehani, who is also the head of the Vetëvendosje Center in Skenderaj, and activist Bahri Zabeli, claim that the attack was carried out by the head of Skenderaj, Sami Lushtaku, and his bodyguards. For his part, Lushtaku, through a post on Facebook, rejected these claims.

The Special Unit of the Kosovo Police has carried out an action in Skënderaj after bodily injuries to the Deputy Minister Hysni Mehani. During the action, several people were detained and raids were carried out, including in AL’s apartment, while the large presence of the police provoked reactions from the citizens.

Meanwhile, the vice-president of Skenderaj, Fadil Nura, wrote on the social network, Facebook, that the created tensions, according to him, bring back heavy memories for the city.
