An attacker in Lviv stabbed an army recruiter in the neck, he succumbed to the injury

According to the Suspilne server, the attack took place on the street around half past two in the afternoon. The doctors revived the victim on the spot and took him to the hospital with serious damage to the carotid artery, where he later died.

“In Lviv, a member of the TCK was mortally wounded in the neck. It was impossible to save him. My sincere condolences to his relatives,” said the head of the Lviv regional military administration, Maksym Kozytskyj.

The police immediately launched a large-scale search operation. “Members of the criminal police, patrol officers and members of other police forces are participating in the investigation of the crime,” the Ukrainian National Police said in a report.

The media identified the victim as first lieutenant Oleh Avdeyev. The suspect in the crime is a 35-year-old employee of the Lviv customs office. The motive of the attack is still unclear.

This was not the first attack

According to the Zaxid server, this is not the first fatal attack on soldiers in Lviv. Last December, TCK member Jurij Bondarenko died as a result of a stab wound. The police charged a 30-year-old man with his murder, who is already in court.

The Reuters news agency noted that Thursday’s murder is another proof that there is strong tension in Ukrainian society around military conscription.

Ukraine has been resisting the Russian invasion for more than four years. Its armed forces face the more numerous and better equipped Russian army.

People who wanted to actively participate in the defense of the homeland joined the Ukrainian army most often in the first phase of the war. As the conflict continued, however, this willingness declined.

Employees of recruitment centers are sometimes criticized for indiscriminate practices, while videos of raids on men appear on social networks. Drainage centers are also the target of bomb attacks. According to Ukrainian officials, it is a Russian sabotage campaign.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhaylo Fedorov promised to reform the levy system when he took office in January.
