The eight-wheeled Stryker’s engine caught fire while driving on the highway when its convoy, headed for a NATO exercise, was passing the exit to the village of Wilsdruff, the Sächische Zeitung website reported.
The transporter was then extinguished under the supervision of the German military police by units of volunteer firefighters from five nearby villages and cleaned the leaked fuel from the road. Because of the wreck, the right lane towards Dresden remained closed on Sunday night before it was picked up by a service unit in the morning, the DNN server reminded.
The Stryker is a Canadian-made armored fighting vehicle platform. It can serve as an infantry fighting vehicle, a medical station, or as a carrier of mortars or anti-tank guided missiles.
Since 2002, they have been widely used by the American army, which has almost 4.5 thousand pieces of different versions. In 2023, she donated four hundred of them to Ukraine as aid after the Russian invasion. Smaller numbers of Strykers were also ordered by NATO member countries Bulgaria and North Macedonia.
