An attack on a hospital in Sudan killed at least 64 people

The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced it today on the X network. According to him, the victims of Friday’s attack include medical staff and patients. As a result of the latest tragedy, the total number of victims associated with attacks on medical facilities during the Sudanese war has exceeded 2,000.

“WHO confirms another attack on the health sector in Sudan. This time Al-Dhain University Hospital in East Darfur’s capital, Al-Dhain, was hit, killing at least 64 people, including 13 children, two nurses, one doctor and several patients,” Tedros wrote. According to him, the decommissioning of the faculty hospital interrupted the provision of basic medical services in the city.

During the nearly three-year conflict, according to the WHO, 2036 people were killed in 213 attacks on medical facilities, including the one on Friday.

In Friday’s attack, 89 people were also injured, including eight health workers, and the children’s, obstetrics and emergency departments of the hospital were damaged, the head of the WHO wrote.

The Sudanese army has been trying to repel the offensive of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) for months.
