“One restaurant and nine patients with hepatitis A, that’s the result of a hygiene investigation in one of the restaurants in Prague’s Dlabačov. The owner of the restaurant and regulars got sick,” the hygienists said.
Together with experts in food hygiene and epidemiology, they inspected the restaurant and revealed deficiencies in personal and operational hygiene.
According to the spokesperson of the Prague hygiene department, Petra Batók, it is not believed that any of the patients were the source of the infection. “However, all persons consumed food in the said restaurant, mostly repeatedly. According to the findings so far, the week from January 26 to February 1, 2026 appears to be the most likely period of possible infection,” she added. She did not want to specify more details about the restaurant.
According to experts, a person can become infected with hepatitis A, which is transmitted through the feces of a sick or infected person, for example from poorly washed hands after using the toilet. From them, the virus can get onto, for example, a shopping cart, a handle in public transport or a railing. The hepatitis A virus is very resistant and survives for a long time, especially in a cold and humid environment, according to professional texts.
