Hysni Gucati, the head of the KLA War Veterans Organization announced that from this Wednesday for all citizens, a petition in support of the former KLA leaders who are being tried in The Hague, for whom the Special Prosecutor’s Office has requested a sentence of 45 years in prison, is available online, as well as in written form.
“We will never stop against the Special Court, not against justice, but the injustice that is happening. We have found support from seven universities in Kosovo, in Tirana, Skopje and Tetovo, and we have prepared a national petition that comes into effect today.” – said Hysni Gucati, Chairman of OVL-UÇK.
For the president of the student parliament of the University of Prizren, Riad Bislimaj, the decision of the Special Court has historical, legal and political weight.
“As such, it will have an impact on regional stability as well as on the perception of justice and trust in international institutions. Therefore, we consider that the decision should be based exclusively on the evidence and facts administered in the trial.”
The head of the Association of the Families of KLA Martyrs Xhavit Jashari said that the main objective of the prosecution is the war of the Kosovo Liberation Army, not only its four former leaders.
“We saw even during the final speech how many times within a short period of time the KLA is mentioned, we continue to have no confidence in the prosecution.”
The organizations that emerged from the KLA war are asking citizens, institutions and political parties to sign that petition, which asks the Special Court to fully respect the basic rights of the accused, including the immediate lifting of the detention measure and the exclusion of any evidence provided by the Serbian authorities.
