Kurti speaks after the meeting with Abdixik: Vetëvendosja does not have a proper name for the president, consensus is needed

After the meeting with the head of the LDK, Lumir Abdixiku, Prime Minister Albin Kurti said that the Vetëvendosje Movement does not have a separate name for the president of Kosovo.

He said that neither PDK nor LDK have a proper name, therefore, according to him, in the following days a candidate must be found who guarantees 2/3 of the deputies in the hall when it is put to the vote.

On the one hand, we did not compete in the elections of December 28 as Lévizje Vetëvendosje with any proper name that we said will be our candidate. So, LVV does not have a member with a party book who intends to become president, but the same applies to the other two big and traditional parties, PDK and LDK, which was also confirmed by the meeting I had with Hamza last night and Abdixik today.“, Kurti said.

According to him, as a political party, they did not have a candidate from their ranks for president in the December 28 elections.

“Therefore, in the future, we either have to find a proper name that guarantees us to be at least two-thirds of the deputies who stand in the hall and vote by selecting a proper name on the ballot no later than March 4, or the political entities agree on the way forward,” Kurti added.

Kurti emphasized that despite having the majority in the parliament, they are far from the number 80, enough to elect the new president.

In the last term, in the ninth legislature, when I was still not elected and could not be elected, it was irrational not to try not to make 61, because we were very close, we were 56; LVV had 48 and we had 8 more minorities, 61 seemed close. This time 61 was easily exceeded, we have 66 as a majority, 57 plus 9, but 80 is far away, not 5 but 14 are in question, and 14 provided that none are missingeh”, said Kurti.

According to him, in the coming days they will intensify the talks with the parties, since according to him, in order to succeed in the election of the president, the number of 83 or 85 deputies must be reached.

If only one is missing, we automatically go to the election. Therefore, in order for the election of the president to be successful, it appears necessary to have somewhere between 83 and 85 deputies. Not 80 or 81 because it’s a big risk that 1 or 2 are missing and you can’t make it and you have to go to the elections in April. Therefore, we need a majority that approaches 85 rather than stays at 80. This means that it is not an easy situation, but in the future we will intensify talkst”, underlined Kurti.
