Five hundred passengers spent the night on planes at the Munich airport

On board Lufthansa flight LH2446 there was also a Danish family with two children who were returning from a holiday in Thailand and the flight to Copenhagen was supposed to be the last leg of their journey. “We boarded the plane when we were told that the take-off would be delayed due to heavy snow. And they kept telling us this for almost two and a half hours. Then they told us that the flight was completely cancelled. That was at 11:56 p.m.,” says the man.

Under normal circumstances, passengers should take the buses back to the terminals, reminds Bild. But on Thursday they were unlucky, there were none available at the Munich airport. “The crew informed us every thirty minutes that they were trying to find some buses, but in vain,” the man describes. Around two o’clock in the morning, people finally learned that all the bus drivers were at home and that the Munich airport was closed because of the ban on night flights from 00:00 to 05:00.

People therefore had to spend the rest of the night on board the parked plane. “There was not enough food or drink for us and our small children and no blankets. Luckily we had some water of our own,” the man described. “It happens that flights are canceled, but leaving people in the plane parked on the airport area is unacceptable,” added another passenger.

According to Bild newspaper, not only passengers to Copenhagen, but also other passengers of Lufthansa flights to Singapore and Gdańsk, as well as two Air Dolomiti flights to Graz and Venice, had to spend the night in the machines at the airport. A total of about 500 people were affected, writes the website of the weekly Focus.

It was not until five in the morning, when people had spent the night on planes, that buses finally took them to the terminal and Lufthansa transferred them to other flights. The first passengers were supposed to take off at 06:40, but this flight was also delayed by an hour.
