Official/ Bekim Sejdiu finally withdraws from the race for President of Kosovo: The country needs reflection

Through an official statement distributed on social networks, Professor Bekim Sejdiu has finally confirmed his withdrawal from the process for the election of the President of the Republic of Kosovo. Sejdiu clarified that his decision comes as a result of the impossibility of reaching a consensus between the proposing and supporting political forces.

“On September 14, I announced my withdrawal from the process of electing the President of the Republic of Kosovo, due to the impossibility of realizing the LDK-LVV agreement, the two parties that proposed and supported me in this process. This is due to the stance of two other opposition parties and 6 deputies of the LDK,” Sejdiu announced.

Communication with political leaders and lack of support in the Assembly

Despite the fact that his name recently returned to public discussions, Sejdiu underlined that he has made it clear to the leaders of the Democratic League of Kosovo and the Vetëvendosje Movement that he no longer considers himself part of this electoral process.

“I have informed the leaders of the LDK and Prime Minister Kurti that I do not consider myself part of the process of electing the President, due to the failure to reach a political agreement and the lack of necessary support in the Assembly,” he emphasized during his explanation.

Personal motivation and thanks for the trust given

Describing the acceptance of the candidacy as an attempt to help the country overcome the political blockade, Sejdiu expressed his gratitude to the political leaders and the academic community who supported him during this period.

“As I emphasized when I accepted the candidacy for the post of President, the only reason and the only motive that prompted me to take on this burden was the interest of the country and the effort to help get out of the crisis. I thanked Prime Minister Kurti and Mayor Abdixhiku for their trust in me and correctness in communicating with me,” said Sejdiu.

The call for reflection on the political crisis in the country

At the end of his message, Sejdiu underlined his regret for the political stalemate in which Kosovo is, calling on political actors to put their personal interests aside.

“I cannot conclude this post without expressing my personal pain for the anxiety and disappointment that the Republic of Kosovo and its citizens are experiencing. Let these be moments of reflection for everyone, beyond narrow grudges and personal interests,” concluded Sejdiu.
