In a statement to the media, the chairman of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Bedri Hamza, has raised concerns about exceeding the constitutional deadlines in the constitution of the Assembly and the lack of agreement on the election of the president, estimating that the country is heading towards early elections.
“The Assembly of Kosovo, even based on the last judgment of the Constitutional Court, should have been constituted on August 7. We have delays, non-compliance with the constitutional deadlines for the Assembly of Kosovo. No concrete, serious action for a period from August 7 until today, until the last hours to give the country a president,” Hamza declared.
Statement on KLA as a common national value
Regarding the legal initiative and the political declaration in support of the values of the Kosovo Liberation Army, the head of the PDK emphasized that the initiative is not done for party electoral gains, but to protect the sacrifice of the entire people.
“The war of the people of Kosovo and the Kosovo Liberation Army is not a war that belongs to the PDK. Nowhere in the statement is it written about the PDK. Victims, martyrs, civilian victims, war invalids, veterans, the people of Kosovo belong to only one political entity. It belongs to all political entities,” he expressed.
Demand for justice and transparency in the Hague process
In his speech, Hamza also focused on the judicial process against the former leaders of the KLA in the Specialized Chambers, demanding proceedings based only on facts and full institutional transparency.
“The law wants, it demands justice. Justice for the people who are in this process. Justice for Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniq, Rexhep Selim. We are for supervision, not intervention, not by telling the court like you are, but by supervision, by transparency, by accountability, by justice,” emphasized the chairman of PDK.
Legal procedures and dialogue with political leaders
Hamza rejected claims of delays or procedural conditions on the part of the PDK regarding the adoption of the law in two readings, underlining that he has kept in contact with all political leaders, but he is looking for concrete results.
“I have met again and again. I am the only one who has met with all the leaders of the political parties: with Mr. Kurti, with Mr. Gjini, and with Mr. Abdixiku. But I cannot have more meetings without results. We are in the last hours,” Hamza concluded.
