The Assembly of Kosovo has started the constitutive session, while 82 deputies are present in the hall, including deputies of the Vetëvendosje Movement, the Democratic League of Kosovo, the Serbian List and some community representatives.
LVV has announced that it will support the PDK and LDK candidates for vice-presidents, Vlora Çitak and Kujtim Shala, while calling on the opposition parties to participate in the session and continue with the constitution of the Assembly.
LVV deputy, Hekuran Murati, said that the main issue that caused the impasse is related to the process of electing the president. Murati said that the Presidency of the LVV has decided to continue with the constitution process and support the opposition candidates for vice presidents.
“We already have an agreement with the LDK, but not a complete one from the side of their parliamentary group. You saw that the PDK and LDK were not interested in changing candidates, as we did when Albulena Haxhiu was not voted for the Speaker of the Assembly. We were ready to, for the sake of unblocking, change the candidates several times”, said Murati
Meanwhile, deputy Arbëresha Kryeziu described the decision of the LVV as another attempt to unblock the process and called on PDK and LDK to participate in the session. She emphasized that the delay in the process directly affects the citizens and the processes that require decision-making in the Assembly.
“I wish that the opposition parties will change their position and come to the session today and proceed further with the process of constitution of the Assembly”, she said.
But, while LVV has declared its readiness to vote for Vlora Çitak and Kujtim Shala, PDK has decided to temporarily withdraw Çitak’s candidacy and not participate in the process until a decision of the Constitutional Court.
In a letter addressed to the Speaker of the Assembly, PDK argued that the constitution process was accompanied by repeated violations of constitutional obligations.
The party has announced that it will turn to the Constitutional Court for the evaluation and clarification of the created situation.
PDK emphasizes that the withdrawal of Çitak’s candidacy is temporary and does not mean relinquishing the position of Deputy Speaker of the Assembly.
