“We are waiting for the liberators at home”, citizens march in Pristina in support of the former leaders of the KLA

Thousands of citizens from Kosovo and the Albanian territories gathered on Saturday in Prishtina’s “Skënderbej” square, in support of former president Hashim Thaçi, former parliamentarians Jakup Krasniqi and Kadri Veseli and former deputy Rexhep Selimi, four days before the Special Court of The Hague announced its decision on them. “We are waiting for the liberators at home”, were among the calls of various citizens who expressed the belief that justice will prevail and that the four former leaders of the KLA will return to Kosovo.

In the organization that was called “March for Freedom”, the head of the Organization of KLA War Veterans, Hysni Gucati, emphasized that it was not the Liberation Army that created the oppression, but the one that stood up to it.

The Kosovo Liberation Army did not create oppression, it rose against it. Justice never dares to turn into a revision of history, nor to be used as a weapon against our liberators”Gucati declared.

In the rally held in the “Skënderbej” square of Prishtina, the chairman of the PDK, Bedri Hamza, the deputy of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, the head of the Democratic Union for Integration, Ali Ahmeti, as well as other politicians and deputies, including from the ranks of Vetëvendosje, were present.

The decision for Thaçi, Krasniqi, Veseli and Selim was given on September 16 by the Court of The Hague, where the four former high-ranking officials have been in custody since 2020.
