The European Union called on Saturday for the respect by all states and parties of the decision that the Specialized Chambers of Kosovo, as it is called the Special Court based in The Hague for the crimes allegedly committed by former members of the KLA during the last war in Kosovo, will give for four former president Hashim Thaçi, former parliamentarians Jakup Krasniqi and Kadri Veseli and former deputy Rexhep Selimi.
“On the eve of the announcement of the decision of the first instance against Thaçi, Vesel, Krasniqi and Selim, we call on all states and parties to respect the judicial procedures of the Specialized Chambers of Kosovo and the decision”, is written in a response that Brussels has given to the interest of the media in Kosovo.
For the Specialized Chambers of Kosovo, the EU reiterated its support, while recalling that that court was established by a decision of the Assembly of Kosovo.
Regarding the decision that is expected to be announced for the four former leaders of the KLA and the former senior officials, the European Union stated that it was not the end of a judicial process and that it could be appealed.
On September 16, the Special Court is expected to deliver its verdict on Thaci, Vesel, Krasniq and Selim, whom the Office of the Specialized Prosecutor accuses of war crimes and crimes against humanity, accusations that the former high-ranking officials, who have been in custody since 2020, have rejected.
