Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar reported on the incident on Facebook, saying that the NATO Joint Operations Center had put the Hungarian defense forces on the highest alert level because of the mentioned Israeli transport plane.
“Shortly after takeoff, the pair of Jas-39 Gripen aircraft established visual contact with the Airbus pilots, who subsequently established radio contact with Hungarian ground control,” Magyar said.
In accordance with regulations, Hungarian fighter jets escorted the plane to the borders of Hungarian airspace. “The civil aircraft left the Hungarian airspace at 20:10 in the direction of Austria,” informed the prime minister, adding that the fighters then returned safely to the base in Kecskemét.
