“This is another case where fraudsters use well-known personalities to convince victims to invest their money. This time they chose the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic. He promised profitable investments on the Internet with a high appreciation of the invested money in cheap Chinese oil,” said Štěpánka Schwarzová, police spokesperson.
A man from Českobudějovick believed the advertisement and reacted to it. “Subsequently, the man was contacted by an alleged broker. He sounded very convincing and the man decided to invest his financial savings in several installments,” Schwarzová added.
A trusting man sent a total of 374 thousand crowns from his account to other accounts in four payments. At that moment, all communication ended and the man realized that it was a scam. “The police are looking for the perpetrator of the crime of fraud. If he is caught and proven guilty, he faces up to three years in prison,” added the police spokeswoman.
