Majtánová moderated the May Day celebrations of the Smér party in the western Slovak town of Bánovce nad Bebravou, but she did not inform the management of the public institution about it in advance.
“STVR respects the civil rights, personal attitudes and professional freedom of its employees and collaborators. At the same time, however, it expects the faces of the public media to avoid activities that may raise doubts about the impartiality and credibility of the broadcast,” Denník N quotes from the position of the television management.
“STVR was not informed in advance about the private work activity of the presenter. We consider the participation of a moderator or STVR editor at a political meeting of any political party inappropriate and incompatible with the STVR code of ethics,” the institution’s management emphasized.
A kiss from Fico
At the end of the meeting, Fico called on the men present to kiss the first woman they have on hand. The Prime Minister then wanted to leave the stage, but Majtánová prevented him from doing so. “Mr. Prime Minister, am I not the closest now?” surprised Fica the moderator. The Prime Minister then kissed her on the cheek.
Majtánová won the Miss Slovakia title in 1993 and thus became the first Slovak beauty queen after the division of Czechoslovakia. Then she worked as a flight attendant and then as a presenter. “In the 1990s, the public perceived her despite her relationship with the Tatra mobster Milan Reichl,” stated Denník N.
In the past, ex-prime minister Vladimír Mečiar also moderated the political events of the Movement for a Democratic Slovakia. “I appreciate the offer. I take it as a professional matter,” said Majtánová at the time.
