All candidates who will compete in the June 7 parliamentary elections will be subject to the institutional verification process. Remembering that May 12 is also the last day of the process of submission of lists of candidates by political entities, the spokesperson of the Central Election Commission, Valmir Elezi, told the KosovaPress news agency that the institution he represents will check whether or not the candidates for deputies meet the legal criteria for participating in the elections.
“Among the institutions from which the CEC will request verification of candidates is the Kosovo Judicial Council. Article 30 of the Law on General Elections emphasizes that a person cannot be a candidate if “he has been convicted in the last 3 years by a final court decision for a criminal offense, with one or more years of effective imprisonment”. Therefore, for the implementation of this legal criterion, the CEC will request from the KJC the verification of the list of candidates to determine if any of them contradict this restriction“, said Elezi.
According to Article 30 of the Law on Elections, a person cannot be certified as a candidate if he or she is: an official with a special status based on the law in force for public officials; member of the foreign service and diplomatic representative; chairman or member of the CEC and the Municipal Election Commission; official of the Electoral Panel for Complaints and Submissions, or who has been deprived of the right to be a candidate by a court decision, including the decision of the electoral panel, and may not have paid any fine imposed on him by the panel or the CEC.
Meanwhile, to cover the expenses related to the organization and holding of the elections of June 7, the Government of the acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti has approved a fund with a value of 10,887,186.45 euros.
