“We hung a banner on the tower of the castle in Narva as a reminder of the ongoing war in Ukraine and Russia’s war crimes against the Ukrainian people and humanity,” reads the post of the museum in Narva on Facebook.
The banner was put up by the staff of the museum in Narva, which is located just a few tens of meters from the Narva-Ivangorod border crossing.
This happened for the fourth time in a row, the local station ERR recalled. The Russians, on the other hand, build large-screen televisions and a stage every year in Ivangorod on their side of the Narva River and organize propaganda concerts.
News visited Narva last October. The director of the museum Marija Smorževskicha-Smirnov told the editors that the banner will be displayed until the end of the Russian war in Ukraine.
“We simply cannot remain silent in this situation,” Smorževskicha-Smirnovová told Novinkám. “Silence for us means that we ignore it (the Russian war in Ukraine) or that we agree with it. We do not agree. Our banners and exhibitions relate to historical events, because the war in Ukraine is also history,” she added.
In addition to the “Putin – war criminal” banner, the museum also had a “Putler – war criminal” poster posted in the past. Putler is a combination of the names of Russian leader Vladimir Putin and Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.
The director of the museum has been in the stomach of the Russians for years because of her actions. Last year, a Russian court sentenced her in absentia to ten years in a labor camp.
