The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy and Security, Kaja Kallas, has stated that the frequent development of electoral processes in Kosovo is the main factor that has prevented the launch of a new round of dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade at a high political level.
In a statement to the media, Kallas said that both the Kosovar side and the Serbian side have shown readiness for meetings within the framework of the dialogue, including the President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić and the acting Prime Minister of Kosovo Albin Kurti, but the process has been postponed due to the political situation and the upcoming elections in Kosovo.
“We had planned the high-level political dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina. We had the agreement of both leaders, but the approach of elections in Kosovo has postponed this process”, she declared.
Kallas added that the European Union is continuing its engagement with both parties separately, with a focus on the implementation of agreements reached earlier.
“We are working with both parties separately to ensure the implementation of the existing agreements”, she expressed.
The last dialogue at the level of leaders between Kosovo and Serbia was held in September 2023, while Kallas took office in December 2024 and has not yet led a new round of negotiations between the parties.
