The Hantavir ship had to anchor in the port on Tenerife due to the weather

During the first day of evacuation on Sunday, 94 passengers got off the MV Hondius, said the Spanish Minister of Health, Monica García. On Monday, the remaining 28 passengers left the ship.

Originally, the evacuation took place on the open sea, but due to worsening weather, the ship had to anchor in the port of Tenerife, wrote El País in its online broadcast.

The cruise ship, which sails under the Dutch flag, started sailing on April 1 in the Argentinian city of Ushuaia. The first passenger on board died on April 11. After less than two weeks, the body of the 70-year-old Dutchman was dumped on the island of St. Helena, where three dozen people, including the deceased man’s wife, came out. She later died in a hospital in Johannesburg. In addition to the Dutch couple, a woman from Germany also died of hantavirus infection on May 2.

The ship arrived at Cape Verde at the end of May. However, the island authorities did not allow the disembarkation of passengers due to insufficient medical capacities. They later negotiated for the ship to sail to the Canary Islands, where it arrived on Sunday.
