“We received a report of a fire in the roof area of one of the buildings in the industrial area in Chropyn on the emergency line after half past one in the afternoon. There are photovoltaic panels on the roof of the affected building,” said regional fire department spokeswoman Lucie Javoříková.
The commander of the intervention declared the second level of fire alarm due to the significant number of intervention units. Firefighters distinguish four degrees of alarm, the most serious, the fourth, applies only in extraordinary situations.
In addition to dozens of units, the operational officer also sent a drone service for reconnaissance from above to the event. “Upon arrival at the scene, the intervention commander confirmed the fire in the roof structure and the firefighters immediately started extinguishing the fire. Even before their arrival, the building was evacuated, during which three dozen employees left the building,” noted the spokeswoman.
Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire during the afternoon. At the same time, they tried to ventilate the building using positive pressure ventilation. During the afternoon, however, they were still looking for hidden sources of fire on the roof of the industrial building and dousing them with water to prevent re-ignition.
The amount of damage and the cause of the fire are not yet known. “On Wednesday, investigators will search the scene to determine the cause,” said the spokeswoman.
The most modern nursery for day-old chickens in the Czech Republic
Chropyňská chicken hatchery, located on the edge of the Fatra industrial area, is run by the Výkrm Třebíč company, which is part of the Agrofert holding. This is one of the most modern operations in Europe, in which up to forty million chickens are hatched annually.
The hatchery was officially opened in 2013 with the participation of Andrej Babiš. It was built for 250 million crowns without VAT on an area of 7,200 square meters. One-day-old chickens travel from here within the Agrofert group for fattening to about five dozen farms of the Vodňanské kuře company.
