Today marks 27 years since the “Day of the Martyrs” in Korishë, otherwise known as the terrible massacre by the Serbian army and police on the innocent Albanian population of this area.
On May 13, 1999, a terrible massacre was carried out by the Serbian army and police on the population of this area and the surrounding villages, stopping the civilians of the villages of Korishë, Budakovë, Bllacë, Reshtan, Mushtisht, and Grejkoc, killing 77 of them.
The massacre happened at the time when the inhabitants of the villages of Korishë, Budakovë, Bllacë, Reshtan, Mushtisht and Grejkoc were stopped and rounded up by the Serbian army and police. The bloody attack left dozens dead and many families destroyed, becoming one of the worst crimes committed against Albanian civilians during the war in Kosovo.
The “Day of Martyrs” in Korişe continues to be remembered every year as a symbol of pain, sacrifice and memory for the innocent victims who lost their lives in the spring of 1999.
