27 years since the battle of Koshare, the heads of state honored the fallen of the KLA: The Kosovo-Albania border collapsed

The 27th anniversary of the battle of Koshare, the place where the bloodiest battle of the KLA freedom fighters took place, brought together the heads of state and politics in Kosovo. Remembering this event, they honored the fallen, while emphasizing that on April 9, 1999, the collapse of the border between Kosovo and Albania, which had been dividing Albanians for decades, began.

“The Battle of Koshare is one of the most glorious battles of modern history. The State of Kosovo was built on this courage, on decisions taken in deeply dangerous conditions and on the courage of entire generations”, said Albulena Haxhiu, the President of Kosovo.

“Koshara is part of the foundation of Kosovo’s politics. Our state is not a product of chance, but the result of resistance, of the just liberation war”, said Donika Gwrvalla, Deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo.

“It is in our honor to live with the feeling of that sacrifice”, said Ramush Hajradinaj, Head of AAK.

“It is a marked day, as it broke the Albanian-Albanian border”, emphasized Ali Ahmeti, head of DUI, North Macedonia.

Through a post, Prime Minister Albin Kurti said that during the battle of Koshare, the KLA became allies of NATO and together they stopped the campaigns of ethnic cleansing and genocide that Milosevic’s Serbia was carrying out against the Albanians. During that fighting, which lasted until June 10, 1999, 114 KLA fighters lost their lives and around 400 others were wounded.
