The Special Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Kosovo, in cooperation with the Police of Kosovo and the Institute of Forensic Medicine (IML), has announced that during the digging operations in the suspected locations in Zubin Potok, the next finding was confirmed by forensic doctors on Wednesday.
According to the official statement, initial field examinations have brought to light new evidence on the remains. The institutions involved announced that “during these actions, based on the preliminary evaluation, the teams of the Institute of Forensic Medicine have identified bone remains, which are suspected to belong to at least 23 individuals”.
Authorities added that “full identification will be done after the completion of the medical-legal examinations and relevant procedures”.
The Special Prosecutor’s Office and the Police of Kosovo, through the Directorate for the Investigation of War Crimes, will continue the in-depth investigations for the complete clarification of this issue. In the framework of this judicial process, the investigators have targeted several people suspected of being involved in the event. As confirmed in the announcement, “currently, three persons JR, MJ and MB are being investigated in relation to this case under the suspicion of committing the criminal offense ‘War crimes against the civilian population’, who are in custody”.
Finally, PSRK, Kosovo Police and IML underlined their commitment to see the process through to the end with the highest professional standards. They emphasized that they express the guarantee “for a professional, impartial and documented process, with full respect for the dignity of victims and families of missing persons”, underlining that any new data will be made public in accordance with legal requirements.
