The Assembly of Kosovo was involved on Wednesday by strong tensions, verbal clashes and physical incidents between deputies of the PDK, the Alliance and the Vetëvendosje Movement. The situation has escalated in several moments, with arrests, pushing, throwing papers, dousing with water and personal retorts, while in the background there is a political impasse for the constitution of the Assembly.
The developments started during activities in the premises of the Assembly, where opposition MPs objected to the participation of MPs and figures of the Vetëvendosje Movement in the activities with citizens. The PDK and the Alliance demanded that the constitutive session continue, turning the Assembly hall and spaces into a tense arena of political clashes.
When the LVV MPs approached the citizens to communicate with them, the PDK MPs started protesting and cheering. One of the strongest incidents happened between PDK deputy, Mergim Lushtaku, and LVV deputy, Adnan Rrustemi.
During the clash, Lushtaku grabbed Rrustem by the arm and addressed him: “I won’t remove my hand, go call your president.”
After this moment, the debates and clashes between the deputies continued in the hall. There was also a verbal clash between the deputy of the PDK, Eman Rrahmani, and the deputy of the LVV, Ardian Gola. During the debate, Rrahmani called Gola a “rat”, further exacerbating the situation.
A little later, Gola was doused with water by other MPs, in another incident that happened during tensions in the hall. Alliance deputy, Albana Bytyqi, clashed with LVV deputy, Arbërie Nagavci. When Nagavci was entering the Assembly hall, Bytyqi grabbed his hands and pushed him, trying to prevent him from entering the hall.
At another moment, Bytyqi threw cards in the direction of Nagavc. The situation became even more tense when the deputy of PDK, Ganimete Musliu, doused Arbërie Nagavcin with water.
PDK and Alliance MPs have repeatedly requested the continuation of the constitutive session, while clashes with LVV MPs have continued even during organized activities with citizens.
