The Democratic Party of Kosovo has asked the chairman of the constitutive session, Avni Dehari, to call the continuation of the session of the Assembly of Kosovo on Wednesday, August 12.
The Parliamentary Group of the PDK has officially addressed Dehar, demanding that the process of constitution of the Assembly continue without further delays and that the elected deputies be enabled to exercise the mandate received by the citizens.
In its request, PDK has also invited other parliamentary groups and elected deputies to be present in the Assembly hall, describing their participation as a proof of readiness to fulfill the responsibilities entrusted to them by the citizens.
PDK has also reacted to the situation created around the constitution of the Assembly, describing the postponement of the process as a violation of the deadlines and constitutional rules.
In a reaction published on Facebook, the party led by Bedri Hamza emphasized that the Constitution stipulates that the Assembly must be constituted within 30 days from the certification of the election results.
According to the PDK, the Constitutional Court has also interpreted this deadline, clarifying that 30 days is not only a deadline for starting the process, but that the Assembly must complete the constitution within this period.
“The constitution is not a recommendation. Judgments are not choices. The rules apply to everyone, even to the government”it is said in the reaction of the PDK, which considers the current situation as a blow to the constitutional order.
Meanwhile, the constitutive session of the Assembly of Kosovo has been postponed following the request of the leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, who requested more time to reach a political agreement with the Democratic League of Kosovo regarding the issue of the future president.
According to the winner of the June 7 election, the lack of an agreement on the election of the president could lead the country to new elections.
