The former president of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has reacted after today’s verdict of the Specialized Chambers in The Hague against Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi.
Through a reaction, Osmani has defended the war of the Kosovo Liberation Army, emphasizing that, according to her, no court decision can change the historical truth about the war in Kosovo.
“The KLA remains the proudest part of the modern history of our people: yesterday, today and forever!”, Osmani wrote.
She also mentioned the victims of the war in Kosovo, emphasizing the number of those killed and the number of persons who are still missing.
“Over 13,000 people were killed by genocidal Serbia during the war in Kosovo. Of them, about 10,000 were massacred civilians, while more than 1,500 still remain disappeared by violence and in mass graves,” Osmani declared.
According to her, many families in Kosovo continue to wait for justice for the crimes committed during the war.
“Serbia’s sexual violence, inhumane torture, murder of children and other heinous crimes still remain unanswered by international justice; meanwhile, Serbia continues to deny the crimes and reward the criminals,” she wrote.
Osmani said that the Kosovo Liberation Army was created as a response to the violence and crimes committed against the civilian population in Kosovo.
“The people of Kosovo stood up precisely against these crimes and in defense of the doorstep. The KLA was the army of the people of Kosovo; it was the bloody oath of the oppressed people who wanted the liberation of their homeland”, she emphasized.
At the end of the reaction, the former president declared that the liberation war and the state of Kosovo, according to her, represent a common responsibility.
“Therefore, today and forever, we will defend the justice of our liberation war. The independent and sovereign state of Kosovo is our common trust”, concluded Osmani.
