Four minor students from Albania, who were detained by the Montenegrin authorities on October 31 in the city of Kotor, have been released without punishment after the end of the court session and have left for Albania.
The news was officially announced by the Embassy of the Republic of Albania in Montenegro. According to data provided by Albanian diplomacy, the arrest of the minors followed a verbal conflict with a Montenegrin citizen, after the students had made the double-headed eagle symbol with their hands.
Consular assistance and follow-up procedures
From the moment of receiving the notification about the event until the completion of all legal steps, the representatives of the Albanian diplomatic corps have been in direct pursuit of the case to offer protection and support to the students.
The official announcement states that “since learning about the event and until the end of the legal procedures and the departure of the students to Albania, the representative of the Embassy has stood by them, offering consular assistance”. Likewise, the diplomatic representation informed that during this period it has maintained uninterrupted communication with the authorities of the neighboring country, as well as with the families of the teachers and minors.
Guarantee of rights and bilateral cooperation
Regarding the standards followed during the process, the law enforcement institutions of Montenegro have confirmed that all the necessary rules for the treatment of minors have been implemented in accordance with the legal framework.
According to Montenegrin authorities, “During the procedures, respect for the rights of minors was guaranteed and they were provided with a lawyer, translator and psychologist”.
For its part, the Embassy of Albania in Podgorica appreciated the cooperation with the Montenegrin structures and reiterated its continuous commitment to the protection of the rights and interests of Albanian citizens abroad.
