Timmy was supposed to set sail from the special boat on Saturday at approximately nine o’clock in the morning, after, according to Bild, which is following the situation online, the captain of the tugboat was supposed to issue an order to release the whale.
However, it was not launched at the place originally planned by the rescue initiative, he added.
The humpback whale is said to have appeared next to the ship for a while after being released and “to say goodbye” spewed water. The German server News5, referring to drone footage, reported that the whale was swimming in the North Sea. “Looking at the sea, the familiar exhalations of a whale could be seen on the horizon. One thing is certain: the whale swam out of the boat and is alive,” wrote the server.
“He’s out, he’s out. He’s out and breathing,” said veterinarian Jenna Wallac on Facebook.
The whale was transported to the North Sea by the tugboats Robin Hood and Fortuna B. The journey started on Tuesday evening, the whale was towed on a cargo barge. But the weather complicated it, on Friday there was a storm between the North and Baltic seas.

Timmy the whale first got stuck on March 23 in the shallows near the town of Timmendorfer Strand near Lübeck. However, people helped her to free herself and sail into deeper waters. Later, however, she got stuck several more times. The last time was at the end of March on the sandbar near the island of Poel near Wismar, where she stayed for about three weeks before she managed to float out of the shallows last Monday. After about two hours, however, she got stuck again.
