Three massive gas pipeline explosions in Russian Dagestan

The gas pipeline explosion occurred near the Dagestan city of Kiziljurt, located on the railway route connecting Makhachkala with the Chechen capital Grozny.

“According to preliminary information, there were three explosions on the main gas pipeline with a diameter of 1,200 millimeters, the circumstances are still being clarified,” said the Dagestan Ministry of Emergency Situations, according to Reuters.

The leaking gas continues to burn, rescue services are on the scene, the UNN server reported. According to the authorities, the firefighters already have the fire under control. According to the Russian state agency TASS, the flames reached a height of approximately 15 meters. Some grassy areas around one of the explosions are also on fire.

The vicinity of the explosion was closed, approximately 100 residents living near the explosion site were evacuated. Dagestan authorities have not reported any victims yet.

The mayor’s office of Kizilyurt said that the explosions occurred in the industrial zone of the city near the gas station.
