The floods hit the Romanian county of Galati, where four people died. Another 90 people were evacuated by the authorities in the village of Pechea. In Galati, the Romanian authorities report up to 150 mm of precipitation per square meter.
Firefighters from several districts were rescuing people on roofs, as the water rose to a height of 1.7 meters in some places, Romanian television reported.
Romania is currently plagued by low pressure Boris. Heavy downpours are expected in the following days, temperatures have dropped to ten degrees Celsius and there is even snow on the Romanian mountains.
The weather was also killing in Switzerland. The Bernese police said on the X network that a woman was seriously injured by falling tree branches while walking in the village of Wengen on Friday and died after being taken to hospital.
Other countries in Central and Eastern Europe, including the Czech Republic, are also struggling with downpours and increased river levels.
