The theft in the traffic shop happened on Sunday, October 6 in the morning. Three days later, the police caught the perpetrators. They found out that he is a 27-year-old man from Liberec, who currently shares a household with his partner in the Špičák housing estate in Českolip.
In the protocol after the arrest, the man stated that he thought of robbing the newsstand on the way to his girlfriend.
“By using brute force, he managed to break in and steal 240 packs of Marlboro, Davidoff and Red cigarettes. In addition, he also threw 29 Rentier, VIP Rentier and Horoscope lottery tickets into his backpack and went home to his partner,” described police spokeswoman Ivana Baláková.
He returned to the scene
But at home, according to his testimony, the man’s conscience began to weigh him down. “He was afraid that by stealing the moose he would cause great damage to the owner, so he took them back to the crime scene the same night,” the police spokeswoman pointed out.
According to her, the man didn’t even have the urge to find out if the lottery tickets, or a potential lottery win, would provide him with greater well-being than the stolen cigarettes he kept. “He made up for it by picking up two more baguettes and several more packs of cigarettes at the drug store on his second visit,” added the spokeswoman.
The owner of the stand calculated the resulting damage at 45,120 crowns. The young man confesses to the offense of theft in abbreviated preliminary proceedings.
