The new chairman of the People’s Committee is Marek Výborný. Bělobárdek will cover his back

The delegates chose the chairman from six candidates. In addition to ministers Výborny and Jurečka, senator Jiří Čunek, deputy Šimon Heller, head of the Prague organization Tomáš Kaplan and member of the Králové Hradec organization Jiří Regner participated in the race for the post of chairman.

Marek Výborný and Marian Jurečka advanced to the second round. Out of 290 votes, Výborný received 114 votes, Jurečka 78 and the third Jiří Čunek 53 votes.

Nothing changes for the functioning of the government. Jurečka and other party leaders repeatedly announced before the congress that there was no change in the post of Minister of Labor and Social Affairs.

Not even the Spolu coalition is in danger. Like Jurečka, Marek Výborný is a supporter of its continuation.

After his election, Výborný informed Jureček and said that he wanted him to remain part of the team and a guarantor of social policy. “If I admire anyone, it’s him, for his commitment and hard work,” he said.

At the same time, he asked the delegates to leave the Olomouc congress united as a party. “In order to pull together, but not from opposite ends, but only from one,” he said, adding that the search for a common unity that can connect diverse attitudes will be most helpful.

At the following press conference after the election, he emphasized that the main task in the following year is to join forces and succeed in the parliamentary elections. “We have to prevent the rise of populists and communists,” he emphasized.

He subsequently confirmed Novinek’s report that, in connection with the national holiday on October 28, the Spolu coalition is preparing a similar scenario as four years ago. At that time, the leaders of the coalition parties publicly signed a memorandum of intent for a joint candidate for the parliamentary elections.

Hladík hit

However, shortly after the election, the People’s Congress made it clear to the new chairman that he would not have an easy time in his new position, when he did not listen to his wish that the Minister of the Environment, Petr Hladík, be his representative.

Although Hladík was the only candidate for first vice president, the delegates did not elect him even in the second round.

In the end, ex-chairman and member of parliament Pavel Bělobrádek was elected first vice-chairman of the KDU-ČSL in a repeated election.
