The theft happened a few days ago at night, when the operational officer manning the emergency line 158 received a phone call about the theft of a quad bike from the parking lot in Ostrava-Zábřeh. “The victim told the law enforcement officers that, according to his neighbor, some people should have loaded the four-wheeler into a white van and driven away,” informed police spokeswoman Eva Michalíková.
She added that the four-wheeler had a built-in GPS module, thanks to which the police soon tracked down the van. “They decided to stop and check it in the prescribed manner. The van driver obeyed the calls and stopped the car,” she said.

When the police stopped the car, they saw the stolen four-wheeler, the value of which was 80 thousand crowns, through the ajar door of the luggage compartment. “There were three people in the car, two men and a girl. It turned out that the younger man who was driving the van did not have a driver’s license. His breath test for alcohol came out negative, but he refused a drug test,” the spokeswoman explained, adding that the trio refused to testify.
Even so, criminal investigators managed to find out that the theft was invented and planned by the van driver. “An older man helped him load the four-wheeler. The girl who was in the vehicle with them did not actively participate in the theft, but she was part of it. They wanted to sell the four-wheeler to Karvinska, where they were already headed with the van,” said Michalíková.
The police charged all three with theft. Because the older man has already been convicted of similar criminal activity in the last three years, he faces up to three years in prison. The younger man and girl can spend a maximum of two years behind bars if convicted.
