At the school in Poprad, the Prime Minister was supposed to have a discussion with students on Friday, but after the discovery of the signs “Fico is a traitor”, “Enough with Fico” and another vulgar sign regarding Fico’s good relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Prime Minister changed the program at the last minute.
According to information from Denník N, the school principal filmed the student taking signs on her mobile phone, and the police then came to get the student right to class. They took him in for questioning. After the interrogation, the student said that the police officers were nice, understanding and lenient towards him. They classified the case as a misdemeanor and the student faces a fine.
Young Cintula
The head of the office of the Slovak government, Juraj Gedra, compared the student to Juraj Cintula, who last year committed the assassination of Prime Minister Fico and was sentenced to 21 years for a terrorist attack. “Mental Cintula in a young version was found in Poprad! What’s worse, however, is that the progressive media make him a hero of primitive hatred! Wasn’t one assassination enough for them?!?” wrote Gedra on Facebook.
The student mainly criticized Fico’s good relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He described the planned discussion with the prime minister as a promo for a politician who supports dictators, wars, imperialist politics and the suppression of basic human rights and freedoms.
KDH called the police’s action a return to the use of state force to intimidate young people. “The police is not supposed to be a henchman of the government. Its task is to protect citizens and public order, not to suppress criticism,” emphasized the opposition movement. According to KDH, this is not a path that belongs to a free society. “Schools should not be a place where people are silent out of fear, but a space for dialogue, reflection and civic courage,” added KDH.
Fico claimed that the discussion with the students was not canceled but moved to a later date. Some students of the school are already saying that on the day when the discussion with the prime minister will take place, they will come in black clothes. The topic of discussion should be the foreign policy of the Slovak Republic.
Fico announced on Facebook on Thursday that he is going to Poprad instead of the planned trip to Brazil, Colombia and Panama. A summit is being held in Brazil before the climate conference with the participation of Ursula von der Leyen and Friedrich Merz. After canceling the discussion with the students, Fico visited the Poprad hospital.
