The acting Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has reacted to the last decision of the Special Court to postpone by two months the announcement of the verdict against the former leaders of the KLA. He said that the Government of Kosovo has no access to the internal developments of this court.
“As for the decision of the Special Court to be postponed for two months, if I’m not mistaken, their decision, we heard about it just like all of you, because the Government of the Republic of Kosovo does not have access to the dynamics and developments that take place in the Special Court”, declared Kurti.
He also criticized the lack of transparency of this institution towards Kosovo.
“The Special Court is not characterized by transparency for our country and whose service it is said to be”, he said.
Kurti emphasized that, according to him, Kosovo does not need such special judicial mechanisms, but for a regular justice system.
“Once again, I emphasize, Kosovo needs normal courts, not special courts”, declared the acting prime minister.
He also referred to the constitutional changes of 2015, considering them a serious moment for the state.
“Amendment number 24 of the Constitution on August 3, 2015 is one of the most serious days of independent Kosovo and of our democratic republic and all these are now consequences”, Kurti said.
In the end, he reiterated his belief in the innocence of the former KLA leaders.
“We believe in the justice of the KLA and the innocence of the leaders of the KLA, of its fighters, who continue to be kept in prison, unjustly in The Hague”, he declared.
Meanwhile, the Judicial Panel of the Specialized Chambers has decided to extend the deadline for announcing the judgment for another 60 days, until Monday, July 20, 2026, justifying the decision with the complexity of the case.
The trial of four former KLA leaders began on April 3, 2023, almost three years after the indictment was confirmed, and they continue to be detained in The Hague.
