The second round of local elections in Kosovo, 18 municipalities in the runoff, the voting process begins

Citizens of 18 municipalities of Kosovo vote today for the second round of elections for mayors. The Central Election Commission (CEC) has confirmed that all polling stations were opened on time and the voting process started without any obstacles.

In the first press conference, the CEC spokesperson, Valmir Elezi, announced that the electoral material, including the ballots, was distributed in the early hours of the morning in all the Voting Centers.

“According to the information received from the CEC, the voting process has started in all Voting Centers,” Elezi said.

Today, the voting process is taking place in 525 Voting Centers, with a total of 1,648 polling stations. 507 centers with 1,628 polling stations are intended for regular voting. Another 18 centers, one for each municipality, with a total of 20 polling stations, have been opened for conditional voting.

The second round of elections for mayors is being held in the following municipalities: Gjakovë, Gjilan, Dragash, Kaçanik, Klinë, Fushë Kosovë, South Mitrovica, Obiliq, Rahovec, Pejë, Prishtina, Prizren, Suharekë, Viti, Vushtrri, Junik, Mamushë and Kllokot.

According to the list of voters, the number of citizens with the right to vote in these municipalities is 1,316,672. In addition to regular voting, the CEC has also organized mobile teams for 2,541 voters with special needs, who were registered in advance.

The second round of elections for mayors takes place after none of the candidates could secure more than 50% of the necessary votes, specifically in: Gjakovë, Gjilan, Dragash, Kaçanik, Klinë, Fushë Kosovë, Mitrovica e Jugu, Obiliq, Rahovec, Pejë, Prishtina, Prizren, Suharekë, Viti, Vushtrri, Junik, Mamushë and Kllokot.

Vetëvendosje Movement (LVV) leads with the largest number of contests in the runoff, followed by LDK, PDK, AAK and Lista Serbe. The Vetëvendosje movement won the race without a runoff in three municipalities, Podujevë, Kamenica and Shtime, and is going to a runoff in 12 others. LDK competes in 9 municipalities in the run-off, PDK competes in 6 municipalities in the run-off, AAK competes in 5 municipalities in the run-off, while Lista Serbe scored a victory in 9 municipalities inhabited by Serb majority, while in Kllokot it led, but goes to the run-off with the Serbian National Unity.
