The purges in Slovak culture continue. Another director fell without giving a reason

SNM is one of the largest contribution organizations of the Ministry of Culture, it manages dozens of museums and monuments. They include, for example, Bojnice Castle, Spiš Castle and Krásna Hôrka Castle.

“They delivered the appeal decree stating that I am being dismissed as of September 30, 2024 from the position of the statutory body as the general director of the museum. Without giving a reason,” said Panis for Aktuality.

Summer protest against purges in culture

It is not yet clear who will lead the SNM in the next period. “I asked about it, but I didn’t get an answer. I don’t know who I should give the agenda to,” stated Panis, who has been working at the Slovak National Museum – Historical Museum since 1999 and has been the general director of SNM since 2005. He remains in the museum as an employee.

This summer, the Minister of Culture dismissed the director of the Slovak National Theater, Matej Drlička, and the director of the Slovak National Gallery, Alexandra Kusou. Their dismissal caused mass protests. About 200,000 people signed the petition for the dismissal of Minister Šimkovičová.
