The police detained the driver shortly after the crime. He is a doctor named Taleb Abdul Jawad originally from Saudi Arabia.
He lived in Germany since 2006 and since 2020 worked as a psychiatrist at a prison clinic in the city of Bernburg, which is located south of Magdeburg, also in Saxony-Anhalt. He worked with drug-addicted convicts.
