Robert Bosch, the former ambassador of the Netherlands in Kosovo, has criticized the position of the European Union towards the verdict of the first instance of the Specialized Chambers of Kosovo.
Bosch has said that the second part of the EU statement was expected, since, according to him, the EU cannot criticize a court that has been accepted by the institutions.
However, he estimated that the EU could be less laudatory towards this court, due to the war in Kosovo.
Bosch also mentioned the structure of the Kosovo Liberation Army during the war, saying that NATO had difficulties in communicating with the forces on the ground due to the lack of a clear structure.
He emphasized that this issue, according to him, should be taken into account in the assessment of the judicial process and criticized the assessment of the EU that the procedures were fair and impartial.
The EU, meanwhile, has called on all parties in Kosovo and the region to show restraint. Spokesman Guillaume Mercier said the Specialized Chambers and the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office should be allowed to fulfill their mandate without interference.
The EU has also emphasized that the verdict of the first instance was given through fair, impartial and independent procedures, while recalling that the convicted have the right to appeal. /RTK/
