The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has stated that early elections are not an option, as the constitutional deadline for the election of the president is coming to an end. During a government meeting, Kurti underlined that the election of the president remains a constitutional duty of the Assembly and requires political will from all parties.
“No political entity can secure 80 or more MPs alone. Discussions should be held on the basis of election results and in the interest of the country,” he said.
Kurti added that Kosovo needs institutional stability and predictability, while emphasizing that a new election cycle would not bring major changes in the result, but would delay the processes, create additional costs and risk the loss of opportunities and funds for the country.
Today, Kurti is expected to meet with the chairman of the LDK, Lumir Abdixhiku, to discuss the issue of the election of the president.
Kosovo is entering a decisive phase, while the deadline set by the Constitutional Court, on April 28, is approaching without a clear political agreement. If the president is not elected by the end of this period, the country risks going to new elections within 45 days.
