The American police arrested a suspect in the murder of the head of an insurance company

Mangione was born and raised in Maryland, had ties to San Francisco, California, and until recently lived in Honolulu, Hawaii. He had no criminal record in New York. Police arrested him after receiving information that he had been spotted at a McDonald’s fast food restaurant near the city of Altoona, Pennsylvania, approximately 375 kilometers west of New York. An employee of the restaurant recognized him. In addition to the weapon with a silencer, the police also found forged documents with Mangione, reported ABC News.

The New York police launched a massive manhunt after the shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson last Wednesday, releasing a series of photos of the suspect and footage of the attack.

Clues from a book about insurance companies

She did not announce any motive for the attack immediately after the murder, but the words “depose”, “deny” and “defend” were found on the cartridges. The perpetrator may have been referring to delaying and refusing to cover health care costs, a practice for which UnitedHealthcare has recently faced criticism from the media, patients and lawmakers, and which leaves patients regardless of insurance with high bills to pay themselves.

There is also a striking similarity with the title of the book “Delay, Deny, Defend” (Delay, Deny, Defend) with the eloquent subtitle “Why Insurance Companies Don’t Want to Pay Claims and What You Can Do About It”, written in 2010 by Jay M. Feinman from Rutgers University , reminded ABC News.

The killer waited for Thompson in Manhattan, New York, in front of the Hilton Hotel, where the head of the insurance company had a meeting. Footage from the security cameras shows that the shooter first hit Thompson in the back and then continued shooting as he approached him. The weapon equipped with a silencer got stuck at one point, but the apparently experienced shooter was able to quickly remove the defect and continued shooting, while the victim tried in vain to crawl away.

The police also published footage from street cameras, on which the suspect’s face can be seen. Criminal investigators also obtained his fingerprint from a bottle of water that he bought at a nearby Starbucks cafe and then threw away. A phone was also found, which the investigators believe was used by the killer once. Thompson, like other UnitedHealthcare executives, faced threats, the company admitted.
