Storms reigned. A number of places reported hail

“Locally, we are already recording totals of around 40 mm of precipitation,” meteorologists said in the evening about storms and rain.

Around 9:30 they added that the storms are slowly weakening, but in the evening they may be even stronger in the southeastern parts of Moravia and gradually also in Zlín region, which is waiting for rain.

“Gradually, instead of local thunderstorms, we are expecting more widespread and permanent rain. In the next hours, it should rain more in these areas as well as in Silesia. Another 5 to 30 mm should rain here by the morning hours,” they said.

The warning issued by the ČHMÚ mainly concerns the eastern half of the republic and is valid somewhere until midnight and somewhere until the morning hours.

In the afternoon, meteorologists reported the strongest storms in the Hodonín Region, with the fact that they will increase in the following hours, especially in the Highlands and Moravia region.

“Since five o’clock in the afternoon, we have been registering less than two dozen events. Most often, it is about cleaning sewers and pumping water from flooded buildings,” said Vysočin fire department spokeswoman Petra Musilová in the evening, adding that Jihlavsk and Žďársk have had the most interventions so far.

Although the warning applies mainly to the east of the country, hail also fell further west. A storm with heavy rain and hail swept through Tymákov near Pilsen in the afternoon.

With storms comes cooling, meteorologists warned. “During the night, a cold front will pass over central Bohemia, behind which cold and moist air will flow from the northwest. At night, temperatures will drop to 7 to 4 °C and it will be cloudy to cloudy, with showers in places, and thunderstorms in places at first. In the morning, above 700 m, the showers will turn into snow, and at the same time the precipitation will stop and the cloud cover will decrease,” said the ČHMÚ.

While on Monday the temperatures rose to 24 degrees, on Tuesday afternoon it will be only 9 to 12 °C. “And the feeling temperature will be reduced by a fresh west to northwest wind with gusts of around 55 km/h,” the meteorologists warned.

Farmers are also watching the current storms. “It passed through the area where fruit and vines are grown. But we don’t know yet if it took anything, because it’s fast and it’s too early,” noted the chairman of the Fruit Union of the Czech Republic, Martin Ludvík.

He added that the fruit growers are still counting up the damage after freezing. “We are dealing with the damage and now the hail has arrived. At the same time, it will not even last 36 hours and there will most likely be more frosts, so it is a very unusual anomaly in such a short time,” Ludvík said of the forecast, which expects frost on Wednesday.
