Rama distributes the testimony of James Rubin in The Hague: the process against former KLAs has tarnished international justice

Prime Minister Edi Rama has reacted after the testimony of former US Secretary of State James Rubin, given to the Hague Special Court, where former Kosovo President Hashim Thaci and other former Kosovo Liberation Army are being tried.

Rubin stated that holding for more than five years in custody is unfair, as they have voluntarily surrendered and cooperated with justice. He described this situation as a political issue and not as a genuine justice.

“The fact that the accused have been in custody for more than 5 years, though voluntarily surrendered, bothers me. I do not see it as justice, but as a political blame, because Hashim Thaci was the leader of the KLA. Albright did not have this justice in mind when he recorded the Hague Tribunal,” Ruby said.

Prime Minister Rama, distributing parts of Rubin’s testimony, described the process as harmful to the image of international justice.

“Freedom has a name! From the testimony of former US Secretary of State James Rubin, in The Hague, where a stinging process has badly tarnished international justice,” he wrote on social media, along with the video of the US diplomat’s speech.

Rubin, who served as a Secretary of State for Public Affairs and State Department spokesperson during 1997–2000, recalled from his experience that he had seen KLA leaders closely and, according to him, there are no evidence to have ordered or committed organized crimes.
