Putin got completely entangled in the West’s threats regarding the Orešnik missiles

“Serial production of the Orešnik rocket has begun, we will choose their deployment depending on the nature of the selected targets, which pose a threat to the Russian Federation,” Putin said on November 28, according to the Russian RBC server.

But this is in direct contradiction to what the Russian leader declared on Monday. “Serial production of these systems should be started soon to ensure the security of Russia and its allies,” the TASS government agency quotes the head of the Kremlin as saying at a meeting of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, which includes Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan outside of Russia.

Moscow deployed the nutcracker for the first time during the attack on the Ukrainian city of Dnipro on November 21, i.e. a week before Putin announced its serial production. According to Putin, Russia deployed the missile in response to the West’s decision, thanks to which Ukraine can use weapons such as ATACMS or Storm Shadow long-range missiles deep inside Russian territory.

Putin can use the hazel as a form of deterrence of the West. However, a number of experts point out that it may not be a completely new missile at all, but a modernization of the older Russian missile RS-26 Rubez, which is based on the RS-24 Jars, writes The Kyiv Independent server.

After its deployment, Belarus, Russia’s closest ally, also became interested in hazelnut. The local dictator Alexander Lukashenko asked Putin to deploy these systems on Belarusian territory. The Russian leader agreed and promised the missiles next year, saying that Belarus is already looking for a place to deploy them.
