The analyst and journalist in North Macedonia, Nazim Rashidi, has commented on the protest of students who demand the conduct of the jurisprudence exam in the Albanian language.
In the show “3D”, Rashidi emphasized that some rights have been made for the communities in the country, but according to him they are not yet at the maximum level, creating an institutional vacuum that, as he said, is also bringing pressure from students who demand the implementation of the law.
“If we refer to the law on languages, the law is called the ‘Law on Languages’ and it does not say only Macedonian or only the Albanian language. The law itself says that, if full harmonization has not been done, then the principle of the law is applied,” said Rashidi.
He added that the issue should be resolved and not remain in different interpretations, emphasizing that a narrative on responsibility should not be created, but the implementation of existing rules should be focused.
“I say very sincerely that the issue must be resolved and not enter into nuances and interpretations. We cannot enter into interpretations for the sake of those young people. The problem is that we must not enter into a narrative about who was at fault,” he added.
According to him, the students simply demand the implementation of the law and the Constitution, while the institutions should provide a clear solution to the situation.
“Some rights have been made, but they are not maximum; therefore, a vacuum has been created and we have pressures, in this particular case from the students who say: ‘Apply the law’. And now the representatives say that they are with the students, but the question is: what do the students demand? and of this law as it is”, he said.
